What is your understanding of the Region Advisor role and how does your experience relate to the role?

I understand the Region Advisor role to be that of a mentor, supporter, guide and source of wisdom and experience for District leaders. We are there to facilitate a learning environment, encourage peer engagement, be stewards of the Toastmasters Brand, and supporters of achieving the District Mission. The experiences in my professional life (including a career as a Senior Human Resource Advisor, earning certification as a Project Management Professional and a grad certificate as a Teacher and Trainer of Adults), and my own Toastmasters District leadership service, have positioned me well to serve our District Leaders and the organization. Whether it be planning and prioritizing tasks for the achievement of goals, using social media effectively to share the benefits of Toastmasters to increase membership (differentiating internal and external messages to the appropriate audiences), or interpreting policy and procedure to ensure compliance, each of these experiences have built my interpersonal and technical skills to work alongside our next generation of District Leaders to fulfill the District mission.

What is your experience with coaching individuals and/or teams?

Most recently, a member of a club I was active in chartering achieved their DTM – a moment of pride for both of us, knowing that I had played a key role in coaching them through the requirements (from understanding the details of distinguished clubs, to navigating Pathways, encouraging district involvement, DTM project ideas, etc.). Always a text away to answer questions, touch base on specific objectives, or simply ask how they were doing, one-on-one coaching was a joy, knowing that I was having a direct and positive impact on their Toastmasters experience. The year as DD demonstrated success in coaching a team to function in tandem towards the same goal (as conflict-free as possible), striving to be a distinguished district. With each executive having their own scope of responsibilities, and each Division having unique teams and club base, I learned team coaching is acknowledging unique personalities and learning styles, setting clear goals and expectations, building trust and collaboration, continuous motivation and encouragement, providing resources, and a never-ending supply of flexibility and adaptability. We may not have been distinguished, but we were all pulling together!

Why are you interested in serving as Region Advisor?

I believe the Toastmasters Journey is transformative and incredible, and the experience and opportunities are whatever we choose them to be. My journey has been full of ups and downs, successes and lessons learned, but never without a supportive environment, encouragement, and new skills and perspective gained. The result is that I continue to develop into the best version of me; a confident, excited, passionate, wiser version of me. To share all that I have gained and learned about the Toastmasters organization (operations, processes, procedures, and leadership skills) to assist and lift up District Leaders to higher success would be a joy. Serving as an RA would be an opportunity for me to give back to the organization that has done so much for me – and allow me to continue my learning journey as a mentor and consultant.
